During my 24 plus years of in the legal profession, there have been countless times that I have had a family member or friend ask for advice.  They didn’t need to be represented – they just needed information along with simple and understandable answers to their questions.  Some had problems with work, others needed advice on what to put into a letter, and still others, who had lawyers representing them, needed confirmation that their lawyer was doing the right thing (or in the worst-case scenario, that their lawyers were not doing a good job).

 

Reflecting on these years and the constant calls from family and friends, it became clear to me that they had less of a need for a trial advocate and more of a need for quick, informal, efficient, easy-to-understand way to gather information, get questions answered and, sometimes, get a little bit of advice.
